Can't call - iPad

I installed Whistle and signed up for an account but when I try to make a call it doesn't respond at all. The green Line 1 button lights up but no sound, ringing, nothing. Also, when I try to call to my provided phone number it says "please wait while we connect your call", it rings in the whistle app, but when I push the green button it doesn't do anything and on the other end of the call, it just keeps playing music.

Also, a separate issue, how do I switch to another generic SIP account if I decided to later?

Thanks,

Brian

    Brian,

It sounds like your Whistle phone is not hitting our servers to authenticate, this may be because your internet provider / wifi hot spot is blocking VoIP traffic.

Please try it in another network or verify with your provider that they are not blocking VoIP traffic.

I have a similar problem, but I can make calls out on my iPad with Whistle using our agency wifi, but when you call in (402) 218-4504 the call will not go through. I'm not sure why the calls go out ok but can't come in, I don't think VoiP is blocked we do use Skype currently without a problem. Thank you for any suggestions.

    John,

You have Whistle open when you are attempting to receive the incoming phone call ?

Do you know what the the user making the incoming cal hears on their side of the phone call ?

Have to chat with our IT people here, because on a different wifi router calls coming and going are working now. Thank you.

I,too, am able to place calls from my iPad, but cannot receive them. Attempts to call my Whistle number get only a "I cannot complete your call" message. This is true whether I am using WiFi only or 3G only on my iPad
    Thanks, Richard.

Can you please verify that you have the app open when you cannot receive phone calls ?

Also, have you setup your follow me list to ensure that you receive phone calls on your other phone numbers when you do not answer your Whistle phone ?

    rhautala,

I've tried several wifi networks, and how a network admin has it set up can make a huge difference! I'm on a different wifi network than earlier this morning and yesterday, and just had a great conversation (quality wise) with my mother. I wished her a happy mothers day since I cant get down to see her. She only reported some faint echo on her end, but volume and clarity were fine on both ends. You might want to try several wifi networks to see if that fixes it. It helped me.

I did not have my app open at the time. When I do I am able to receive calls. This is unfortunate because only one app can be opened at any given time on the iPad, so I would have to expect a call and keep the app open.
    Thanks,
    Richard

Yes, this is a limitation of the current iPhone OS, hopefully the next release successfully remedies this limitation.

If you would like to receive the phone calls when you do not have the app open, go to your Account page on Whistle and click the "Follow Me" link. This feature allows you to forward incoming phone calls to up to five phone numbers that you currently have.

All you need to do is add the numbers to your list and calls will begin to forward when you do not answer your Whistle phone on inbound calls.

Let me know if you have questions on setting this up ?

I make a local call with no problem, I try and call long distance and I get a recording saying I do not have enough on my account to make this call.

    jks45,
Are you trying to make a call outside of the continental united states ? If so, you will have to add money to your international call balance because these calls fall outside of our Free calling range.

No, I am not trying to make a call outside the continental United States.
I am trying to call area code 907, Alaska.

    Jerry,

Sorry, Alaska does not qualify for free calls on our service. The rate to call Alaska is $0.27 a minute. If you add to your International balance you will be able to successfully make calls to Alaska.

Currently Hawaii falls outside of our free calling area. Sorry about the inconvenience. However, you can call anyone in the continental US from Hawaii for free.
