So the app supports iPod touch. I go to my local apple store and ask if I buy the iPhone microphone accessory can I plug it in and use it to record? Guy says yes. Buy one, plug it in, iPod says no microphone detected. How does this app work with an iPod touch?

This app works with 2nd generation iPod Touches and newer. We cannot guarantee compatibility with non Apple microphone accessories. Whistle works with any Apple headphones that have a mic built in. You can purchase these headphones online or at an Apple store.

We are not experts on Apple products, but I did find a site that might give you the answer on firmware upgrades. Hope this helps.
