My Linksys PAP2T ATA condig is showing Can't connect to login server.
The current server in the config is proxy.whistlephone.com. Has the
login server changed or has SIP 5061 port changed? This issue started
about two weeks ago, around late March.

Currently Whistle does not allow you to manually reset your passwords. Whistle was coded to the SIP protocol and when a SIP proxy returns the correct 4XX failed authentication code, Whistle will automatically prompt the user again for their password credentials. This is why there is no password field on the Whistle settings page, because if your authentication fails, you should be prompted again for your password.

RFC 3665 section 2.5 of the SIP Protocol states a bad password should result in a 401 or 407. We have run into issues with providers returning 403, which means to not try authentication again, hence no prompt for a password.

The problem you are running into relates to your SIP service provider returning the wrong error code (most likely 403) and Whistle will not prompt for the password again because its not receiving the correct 4XX error code in response. I would contact your SIP service provider to notify them of this error.

The iPhone OS automatically stores passwords for applications that request such service, just like web browsers and KeyChain on Mac OSX. The problem you run into is that there is no option to clear saved passwords in iPhone OS, that is why you are seeing your password returned after you delete Whistle and re install it. The iPhone OS has a saved reference to your password for the SIP credentials you entered for the Whistle application. This functionality is common among all iPhone OS applications.

However, in the next release of Whistle, we are including a settings option to clear your passwords to coincide with SIP services that do not adhere to the SIP protocol authentication standards. I do not have an official release date for this update at this time.

Please let me know if you have any more questions.

    Dawn,

There are two password fields in settings; one to enter a new password and the other to confirm the new password. That's what i did to enter a stronger password. It does allow me to login into Whistle. Before I contact my SIP provider If I reenter my original password will that connect my to the login server? Thanks.

    Dawn,

I reentered my original password in Whistle, logged out and logged in again and still can't connect to the login server. I even confirmed my original password is in my ATA config. If I contact my SIP provider exactly what do I need to ask them to do?

Okay, I've been informed that the ATA is a third-party client that we don't support in general, but that you may have more luck with it if you remove the "http://" from the proxy and registrar settings. Hopefully it works out, but I'm afraid we can't guarantee anything with the ATA.
